Bicycle thief
Officers received a call around 9 a.m. on Sat., May 20, reporting that a man on a bicycle was wrestling with a man on a moped near the intersection of 20th Avenue S.W. and S.W. Henderson Street. When police arrived, the suspect was gone. The victim explained that he lived in an RV, which is currently parked on S.W. Henderson Street. Earlier in the morning, he was sleeping inside, when his dog barked and woke him up. He heard someone trying to open the door handle of his RV. A few minutes later, he saw an unknown man riding away on his bicycle, which had been propped against the back of the RV. Later that morning, the victim saw the same man riding the stolen bicycle north in the alley. He told his friend about the crime, who then rode off on his moped to look for the thief. They found the man in front of his house, and they started wrestling. The thief got off the bike and started yelling at other witnesses from the block, who had gathered around. The victim took his bike back and the suspect started yelling at him and threatening witnesses. The suspect took cans out of his backpack and threw them around. He also grabbed a box-cutter and slashed the moped’s tire. Witnesses saw the suspect walk around the corner and break two windows the victim’s RV. The suspect finally walked away. Police checked the area for the man but were unable to find him. The man was described as being in his 30s, and wearing a blue shirt with a vertical stripe and gray sweatpants.
