The Highline Education Association (HEA) has endorsed Mengstab Tzegai for election to his first full term on the Highline School Board.
Tzegai, who was appointed to the board in 2004, will be opposed by Susan Goding in November's general election.
Three suspects were arrested and charged with first-degree murder late last week in connection with the Aug. 28 shooting death of 15-year-old Thaddeus Soth.
While spending the night at a friend's house, Soth, a Burien resident, was fatally injured when struck by a bullet as shots were fired into the basement where he was sleeping.

We Care Northwest, a coalition of Highline-area churches, is collecting school clothing for children for distribution to evacuees from hurricane-devastated New Orleans.
The collection center at the former Gottschalks department store at 460 S.W. 152nd St. opened on Sept. 3.
Donations will continue to be accepted by volunteers from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at least through Saturday, Sept.

Hoop camp returns
Applications are now being evaluated for The Ten Star All Star Summer Basketball Camp. The camp is by invitation only. Boys and girls ages 10 - 19 are eligible to apply. Past participants include: Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Jerry Stackhouse, Grant Hill and Antawn Jamison. Players from 50 states and 17 foreign countries attended the 2004 camp. College basketball scholarships are possible for players selected to the All-American Team.
Is it worth that much?
On Aug. 24, I attended the Highline School Board meeting. Of particular interest was Resolution 2155, Purchase of Real Estate off of South 176th Street in Burien adjacent to the district's Maintenance and Transportation Facility (MOT). No purchase price was given nor was the owner of the property identified. I found that curious.

So the police are having to stop their rescue efforts to concentrate on the looters.

Burien's free annual Fall Art Walk will take place Saturday, Sept. 10.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., browse among artistic expressions ranging from glasswork to mixed media displayed in downtown Burien and Seahurst.
New theatrical experiences have been added, and the lineup on the Sal's Deli stage varies from folk pop to classic rock.
