Attack letter is harmful

A recent flyer came to my attention.

This flyer entitled "Vote for the Women (Just this time)" is an attack on the car dealers of Burien.

Who are these citizens?

Well, I am surprised that the "ladies" agreed to this juvenile effort to discredit the segment of the Burien economy that contributes more in retail sales tax revenue than any other segment of our increasingly vibrant Burien economy.

Attacking car dealers really skirts the issue.

Bulldogs beat Wolves

sports CORRESPONDENT

Foster High School's Bulldogs put strong bites behind their growls while chewing up the visiting Sequim Wolves, 3-1, in Class 2A Nisqually League volleyball action Wednesday.

With the win, Foster improved its league won-lost record to 3-1 and prompted optimistic observations by its first year head coach Trina Andersen.

"Our girls have been in the weight room and are stronger at controlling the net with their passing and blocking," she said.

Seattle Christian shuts out Bulldogs, 7-0

sports CORRESPONDENT

The Foster Bulldogs played even against Seattle Christian the first 15 minutes before the Warriors leveled their Nisqually League foe, 7-0, at Warriors Field Thursday.

The Warriors improved to 3-1 in league while the Bulldogs dropped to 0-3.

"We are a young team," said Bulldogs coach Heather Delez. "We have only three upper classmen."

And only one of those Bulldog upper classmen is a senior. The other two are juniors.

"These are the building years," she said.

Home robbery gunfight

During a robbery at a home in the 20000 block of 13th Ave. S, two male suspects had their weapons turned on them.

Around 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 26, three adults were sitting inside the house when they saw a car pull up with two men in ski masks inside.

The men walked quickly up to the house and kicked in the door. They were both armed, one with a shotgun and the other with a baton-type weapon.

When a suspect hit one of the victims over the head, the victim started to fight back.

Tukwila company cools combat Humvees in Iraq

Temperatures in Iraq are starting to cool down, thanks to the help of a local company.

Tukwila-based Red Dot Corp. has been working since April 2004 on special air conditioning units for armored Humvees in Iraq.

Since then, they have shipped almost 16,000 units to the heat-ridden country along with another 6,000 units for other vehicles in the field.

"This whole process has just been incredible," Bill Jewell, product marketing supervisor," said last week.

Hope from North Highline

More relief for the victims of Hurricane Katrina has been sent from the Highline area - including donations from throughout America.

This time it's with the help of a national radio show host based in Seattle and a warehouse in North Highline.

Delilah, the host of Love Songs with Delilah on Warm 106.9 and a resident of the North Highline area, offered the warehouse used for her charity - Point Hope Ministries - to the Backpacks of Hope Project.

Backpacks of Hope was started by Kerry Hanchai, whose sister works with Delilah.

Burien is a "cultural city"

Editor's Note: The wrong letter from Rochelle Flynn was printed in the Sept. 28 issue of the Times/News. We are publishing the correct letter this week.

On behalf of the city of Burien Arts Commission and the Discover Burien Association, I would like to thank all of the people who helped with the Fall Art Walk on Saturday, September 10.

Over 45 businesses (including six new venues) and artists participated in the walk.
