Seattle water concerns

I am responding to a front page article in the Aug. 30 Times/News entitled: "Part Two: Burien Addresses Utility Rates."

First, thank you for this series of articles. The annexation of the North Highline area is a very serious concern to many people no matter where they reside-Burien, Seattle or North Highline, and I appreciate receiving as much information as possible about this complex issue.

My concern is about the first question of Part 2: "How many water customers would be affected if Seattle annexes most of all of the North Highline unincorporated area?

Art, dance on tap

Art lovers in Burien will take to the streets for the annual Art Walk on Saturday, Sept. 9, along Southwest 152nd Street between Second and 10th Avenue Southwest.

Visual arts exhibits, performing artists and children's activities will highlight the event from 10 a.m.

Big Picture offers alternative view

A student chooses to make a mirror as a class project.

She goes to a lumber warehouse for advice and buys a framed mirror at Home Depot.

Then she tears out the mirror and creates her own customized framed mirror.

"At Big Picture School, students learn base on their interest," said Jeff Blunt, an advisor at Big Picture School in Burien.

"Anything that a student learns revolves around their career choice or current interest."

Players ride to support Utley

Former Kennedy High School football standout Mike Utley is one person who can't be slowed down.

With help from Kennedy, Utley and his foundation preparing to put on the fourth annual DAM2DAM "Thumps Up!" bike tour.

The event, which will span 100 miles along the Columbia River, benefits the Mike Utley Foundation's goal of finding a cure for spinal cord injuries.

"From Kennedy teachers to alumni, they have all given me the opportunity to get the name of my foundation out," Utley said.

Burien theatre examines Art in season debut play

Burien Little Theatre opens its 2006-07 season Friday, Sept. 8, with the Tony Award-winning comedy Art by Yasmina Reza.

BLT's production runs through Oct. 1. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. at the Burien Community Center, Southwest 146th Street and Fourth Avenue Southwest.

Art tells the tale of Serge, who has just purchased an enormously expensive modern painting to hang in his living room. He can't wait to show it to his buddy Marc.

Marc hates it. Serge is annoyed.
