As a result of combined efforts by the Des Moines Police Department and the Washington State Liquor Control Board, the Redondo Bar and Grill's liquor license has been suspended.

Seattle not a 'big bugaboo'

I hope the residents of North Highline read the review of West Seattle Junction in the Oct. 26 issue of the Seattle Times' Northwest Weekend. That is only one example of a Seattle neighborhood that is thriving within the Seattle city limits. There are numerous other Seattle neighborhoods such as Ballard and Fremont doing the same.

Seattle is not the big bugaboo that many residents of North Highline make it out to be.

Ex-mayor corrects critic

I feel it's necessary to respond to Richard Knight's letter to the Oct. 18 Highline Times regarding fire issues.

I don't know Mr. Knight's motive for personally attacking me but here's what he said in paragraph five, "Former Mayor Hansen who spoke against the levy, was the same individual that consistently voted against using existing monies for needed improvements while serving as a city council member."

This statement is false. In the 16 years I spent on the city council I voted for the budget, which included fire service funding, 15 times.

Gambling stance criticized

No one has ever been killed by a third- or fourth-offense Internet gambler.

State Sen. Karen Kaiser co-sponsored the bill to make Internet gambling a felony in the state of Washington.

Drunk-driver killers continue to drive on our streets.

For murder, drunk drivers get a slap on the wrist instead of a strike, and another trial lawyer sends a campaign donation to their state representative.

What is wrong here?

Who benefits from the penalty for Internet gambling? Indian casinos, and other casinos.

Estate tax 'devastating'

It is widely known that the richest and second richest families in America solidly support the estate tax here in Washington and at the federal level. The Gates and Buffetts, in turn, reap praise for their selfless philanthropic commitments, most of which is well deserved. Let's now connect some facts and see where they lead.

If you build it, he will come ... and buy it.

Frank Russell Company was a locally owned multi-generational jewel of a company employing many, having built a stellar international reputation while doggedly maintaining its Tacoma identity.

Conflict is 'sour grapes'

I read with interest your story, "Conflict of interest concerns raised," by Ralph Nichols.

I live in Missouri and we would be so lucky to have someone dedicated to organize events and help us get people to come to our business district. What's more, who would you rather have running a business organization? Someone who runs another business and knows what it's like to have a business in the community or someone who is removed and unaware about running a business in your city?

The way I see it, this is a case of sour grapes and jealousy.

Motivation for Discover Burien story questioned

Hasn't our community suffered enough from antics and drama of the past?

I am wondering why Burien businesses cannot resolve their supposed conflicts and differences away from the newspaper spotlight.

Second, why is your newspaper not focusing on more positive newsworthy stories in the community?

Third, what is the real, underlying motivation of Ralph Nichols in regard to Discover Burien's Executive Director, Debra George?

The business owners mentioned need to grow up and stop being whiners.
