Evergreen drops two at district

The Evergreen Wolverines lost two games at the West Central District III Fastpitch Tournament at Sprinker Recreation Center in Parkland Friday.

Their first loss was 9-0 to the No.1 seed, Timberline. That was not a good game to talk about. But the second one was against a good team from the Southwest District, Hudson Bay, and the Wolverines played this Vancouver, Wash. area team straight up.

"We battled," said Evergreen head coach Daylene Boehm.

Lancers blank Rams

Kennedy moved smoothly through the West Central District 3A tournament, like a hot knife through butter, in the first game, an 8-0 win over North Thurston. Their second win of the day, 1-0, over rival, Mount Rainier, meant one word at Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma Friday.

State. Again.

The Lancers have made the state trip each of the last two seasons and taken one game against two losses in each visit, so that has made them top 10 in the state.

This time may be better than that if their ace pitcher, Karli Merlich, continues her season-long ways.

Highline light rail on ballot

Highline figures prominently in the Sound Transit 2 package proposed recently by the agency's board of directors.

If approved by voters, the Sound Transit 2 package, which carries a $10.9 billion price tag, would be financed through a regional sales tax increase of 0.5 percent, or an additional 5 cents on a $10 purchase

It would extend light rail from SeaTac through Des Moines, Federal Way and Fife to the Tacoma Dome, where it would connect with Tacoma's existing light rail system.
