Coast Guard Auxiliary

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Des Moines Flotilla No. 32 regularly offers Boating Safety and Seamanship courses at Mount Rainier High School.

They cover the full range of boating safety subjects, including federal requirements, basic piloting, marlin spike, seamanship and boat handling.

The instruction is free, although there is a nominal fee for the student text and work books.

Masters times offered

The Federal Way Masters swimming team for ages 19 and over is now offering three workout session times at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center located at 650 SW Campus Drive in Federal Way.

Monday through Friday a 5:30-6:45 a.m. and a 7-8 p.m. session are offered, with a 6:50-7:50 a.m. session taking place Tuesdays and Thursdays. A 10:15-11:15 a.m. session is offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Saturdays an 8-9 a.m. session is held at the Kenneth Jones Pool (Federal Way High School).

Members are required to join U.S.

Food and toy drive set for Federal Way

The annual Community Food and Toy Drive for Des Moines and Federal Way is now in high gear, and South King Fire and Rescue is asking for the public's generosity once again.

Donations of canned goods, non-perishable (dry) food items and new, unwrapped toys (no stuffed animals, please) will be accepted at each fire station from now, through Dec. 12.

Donations of cash or checks made out to the "Community Food and Toy Drive" will also be collected.

Delivery of food and toys to needy families is set for Dec.

Suspicious circumstances reported at Greystone Apartments

1. A woman contacted Federal Way police to report a possible burglary and unauthorized home entry at her apartment unit in the Greystone Apartment complex at 31010 18th Avenue South. The incident took place around 12:30 a.m. on the morning of November 13. The woman told police that she left her apartment secured on the afternoon of November 12, around 8 p.m., with the doors locked and the lights turned out. The woman told police that she returned after midnight and noticed that all of her lights on and some food items left out on the table.

Kenneth T. Harris

Kenneth T. Harris was born on December 22, 1942, in Marietta, Oklahoma, and peacefully passed away November 4, 2007, surrounded by family and friends.

Ken graduated from Grossmont High School in La Mesa, Calif., and in December 1961 he joined the U.S. Navy and graduated from the San Diego Naval Training Station. Following in the Navy tradition, Ken served various Navy ships on three NATO cruises, and three terms in Vietnam. In 1976 Ken was assigned his last Navy vessel, the USS Kincaid. He was one of the original crew (Plank Owner) to place the ship in commission.

Theresa A. Hillstrom

Theresa was born October 23, 1921, in Rock Springs, Wyoming. She passed away in her daughter Kathy's home in Burien November 13, 2007. Theresa was a long-time resident of Burien. She met her late husband, Harry Hillstrom, in Seattle and they married there in January 1939. . They and their children moved to Burien in 1954.

She was a dedicated homemaker who loved her family, yard and home.

She is survived by children Joan (Kent) Kasnic of San Jose, Calif., Kathy (Brick) Kincaid of Burien and Greg (Linda) Hillstrom of Centralia.

Joseph Patrick Kussman

1937-2007

Pat passed at his home Saturday. November 10, after fighting a courageous battle against Melanoma cancer. He went to sleep peacefully surrounded by his family.

Pat was born in Seattle on October 21, 1937, to Joseph and Adele Mary Kussman and spent his entire life living in Burien. After graduating from Highline High School he went to work for United Airlines where he worked for 45 years until retirement in 2001.

Pat's passion after he retired became golf and more golf.

Gloria L. Sealey

Gloria Lillian Sealey left us to be with the Lord, Friday, November 9, 2007, after nearly a year long bout with cancer. She was at her home on Lake Burien and surrounded by loving family when she passed. Just last year she watched her husband, Bob, pass away in their home from cancer.

Gloria was born March 24, 1927, in Spokane. Her parents were Theodore and Lillian Gorden. She was their only child.

In her childhood, Gloria and her parents moved around Spokane a lot, but she always spent her summers at her family cabin at Priest Lake, Idaho, with her cousins and aunts.

Steven R. Gilsdorf

Born January 13, 1958, in Seattle; died November 10, 2007, also in Seattle. Survived by his father, Robert Gilsdorf; his sisters, Sharon Glockner (Gary) and Linda Gilsdorf; his niece and nephew, Amelia and Joseph; his uncle, Richard Gilsdorf (Carol), and several cousins. Preceded in death March, 2004 by his mother, Marilyn.

Steven was an airline pilot for 30 years. He loved to fish, boat and travel.

Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, November 17, at St. Bernadette Church, Seattle.
