Bartell Drugs Pharmacy Robbed

Suspect still at large and fortunately "no one was hurt"

The Bartell Drugs pharmacy in Jefferson Square on 42nd Ave s.w. was robbed Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

“We are fortunate that no one was hurt and the pharmacy was re-opened by noon,” Rebecca Siegmund, assistant vice president of marketing for Bartell Drugs, said in an email.

SPD First Watch Commander Lt. Von Levandowski of the Southwest Precinct provided further details on the suspect and robbery.

According to Lt. Levandowski, the suspect told the pharmacists on duty that he had a gun (although he did not show it) and “obtained assorted narcotics” before fleeing westbound on foot.

Responding officers were unable to locate the suspect, described as a white male in his late 20s to early 30s “wearing a tan beanie, dark blue jacket, blue jeans and black New Balance tennis shoes.”

If you have any information regarding the robbery or suspect please contact the SPD Southwest Precinct at 206-733-9800.

Fast Lincoln Park bike riders are a danger

Letter to the editor,
I was recently riding my bike on the Lincoln Park Beach walking & bike path.

I was putting along because of the large number of walkers. All the other bikers that passed me in both directions were going way too fast.

Please all you Lance Armstrong want-to-be's, stay (ride) on Beach Dr or other surface streets before you injure someone ;or slow down.

Chief Sealth International High School Kicks Off Homecoming Week

Events and Athletic Competitions Run Oct. 11 to Oct. 16

Oct. 11 – 16 marks the 2010 Homecoming Week for Chief Sealth International High School and “Your Own Disneyland Adventure” is the theme.

Please see the attached document above for a full schedule of activities.

The Herald did a Q and A with Chief Sealth Athletic Director/Activity Coordinator Sam Reed over the weekend, and here is what he had to say about the event:

Q: How did the theme, "Your Own Disneyland Adventure" come about?

A: Each summer the newly elected ASB officers spend a week together at a high school leadership camp. After coming back from a week listening to, and sharing ideas with over 300 other student leaders from around the state they are filled with great ideas. This year’s group narrowed down the ideas and came up with the concept of looking “back in the day” to when they were “kids.”. Disney images and movies are so popular and easy to work with that it can be something everyone can work with.

Q: Traditionally, do the students at Chief Sealth get fired up and involved with homecoming week? What does the event signify for the school and its students?

Low Income Housing Institute proposing Ballard development

The Low Income Housing Institute, or LIHI, is proposing a family housing development in downtown Ballard.

LIHI offers housing for low-income, homeless and formerly homeless people and administers supportive service programs. The organization currently operates 32 sites in and around Seattle.

The Ballard development is proposed for the vacant lot at 2014 N.W. 57th St. across from Wiggen & Sons Funeral Home and down the street from the Ballard Library. It is also located within two blocks of Compass Housing Alliance's forthcoming Urness House for formerly homeless individuals.

Though LIHI has not responded with specifics for the Ballard development, it operates three sites nearby in Greenwood. Those locations house individuals earning 30 percent to 50 percent of the area median income with some space dedicated for housing homeless women.
