Snow looks likely for Tuesday night

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement as of 4:57 am Monday, Jan 10 that calls for snow on Tuesday evening.

...LOWLAND SNOW POSSIBLE TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING...

MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH A PACIFIC FRONTAL SYSTEM WILL BEGIN TO
SPREAD INTO WESTERN WASHINGTON LATE TUESDAY AFTERNOON. AT THIS TIME...

IT APPEARS THE AIR MASS WILL INITIALLY BE COLD ENOUGH SO THAT
PRECIPITATION WILL FALL AS SNOW ACROSS THE LOWLANDS TUESDAY NIGHT BEFORE CHANGING OVER TO RAIN WEDNESDAY MORNING.

THE TRANSITION TO RAIN WILL START OVER THE SOUTHWEST INTERIOR EARLY WEDNESDAY AND SPREAD NORTH DURING THE MORNING WITH THE PRECIPITATION CHANGING OVER TO RAIN IN THE NORTHWEST INTERIOR BY LATE MORNING. CURRENT COMPUTER GUIDANCE SUGGESTS 1 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW COULD FALL WITH POSSIBLE HIGHER AMOUNTS OVER THE NORTHWEST INTERIOR BEFORE THE PRECIPITATION TURNS TO RAIN.

CONTINUE TO MONITOR FORECASTS CLOSELY OVER THE NEXT COUPLE DAYS AS THIS STORM SYSTEM DEVELOPS.

Home invasion robbery foiled near 16th s.w. and s.w. Henderson

From the SPD Blotter:

On January 9th, at approximately 8:30 PM, Southwest Precinct officers responded to a 911 call to a residence in the 8800 Block of 16th Avenue Southwest. Officers arrived and contacted the three victims inside the residence.

They stated that at approximately 8:30 PM, two black males, wearing dark clothing, between 20 and 30 years old, wearing ski masks and armed with handguns, forced entry into the house and confronted two of the occupants inside.

One of the victims was kicked in the face and another was struck in the face. As this was going on, the third person inside the house heard the commotion and went upstairs to find out what was happening. He saw the masked suspects confronting the other two and ran out the back to neighbors to seek help and call 911.

It appears that the suspects may have been startled by this person, as they too ran out the back door and fled the scene.

It appears that a wallet may have been the only thing taken.

An open letter to Chief Diaz

And the response from the S.W. Precinct Captain

Open Letter to Chief Diaz

At about 10:15 a.m. on November 30th I was traveling Westbound on the West Seattle bridge and noticed a car on the Eastbound side stopped precariously in the merging
triangle. The car had its emergency lights flashing and because the merging triangle was unusually narrow, the car was startling the triangle lines while partially blocking the right lane of the bridge and the merging lane from Avalon Way. I saw that the car was occupied, but given that there was no safe place for me to stop, I continued on my way.

I had time to go to the junction Safeway for some groceries, buy lunch and drop off the produce at our Genesee home, when my wife called and asked if I had time to meet her for lunch in Tukwila. On my way Eastbound across the bridge more than an hour later, I was shocked to see the same car, still occupied, parked in the same precarious position with traffic bowing around it.

Statement by Executive Constantine on shooting of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords

In response to Saturday's mass shooting that occurred in Tuscon, AZ killing six and gravely wounding Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, Executive Constantine released the following statement.

"My thoughts are for the speedy recovery of Congresswoman Giffords and the others wounded in this unspeakable assault on one of our nation’s elected leaders. My deepest condolences go to the families of all those wounded or killed. The victims of this senseless attack were Americans taking time to participate in our democracy.

"We don’t know yet whether the politically-charged use of gun imagery targeting the Congresswoman contributed to this despicable shooting, but the Congresswoman herself warned that such language and actions can have consequences. We as a community must condemn those who exploit the language of violence, and demand a more civil discourse in the public and political arena."

Ballard Beavers lose to Garfield Bulldogs

Ballard High School hosted the Garfield Bulldogs on Friday for some tough games.

Garfield is the leading scoring girls basketball team in the KingCo league this season and the Lady Beavers struggled. While the Beavers cut their turnovers in half from the previous Skyline game, the shooting wasn't up to par to their usual game. The Beavers defense tried to keep the damage at bay and Garfield scored 5 points under their average. The Lady Beavers lost 33 to 55.

The boys varsity team lost to the Bulldogs as well. The Bulldogs gained the lead in the first quarter and kept it for the rest of the game. Ballard tried to make a comeback in the fourth quarter but were unable to catch up. They lost 67 to 81

You Are What You Eat: How to get the salt out of sausage

By Katy G. Wilkens, MS, RD

Trying to follow a low-sodium and kidney-healthy diet can be difficult when foods you love are high in salt, and it can be even harder around the holidays, when your favorite salty foods are everywhere.

Sausage is one of those high-sodium foods that just doesn’t have many good alternatives. You can buy regular ground pork and mix it half and half with ground sausage to dilute the salt a bit. But even then, a small patty can have 400 to 800 milligrams of sodium.

If you have to have a salty meat at breakfast, bacon is actually lower in salt than sausage, but that’s just because it weighs so much less. Ounce for ounce, both are equally salty. Most low-salt bacons still have about 200mg per two slices, or about a tenth of your 2,000mg daily limit.

A great solution to lower your sodium and still enjoy sausage is to you make your own. Don’t worry, you don’t have to buy sausage casings to make this great treat, which you can use at the holidays in your family’s favorite sausage stuffing, or serve as patties on Christmas or New Years.

Carnegie's is closing, elegant restaurant space for rent

Update: Owner is "talking to people."

An ad on Craigslist announces a vacancy for restaurant space in the "Carnegie brick building in heart of downtown Ballard" and building owner, Karoline Morrison told the BNT that she's "talking to people."

Carnegie's French restaurant is leaving at the end of the month after coming to a "mutual agreement" with Morrison.

"We've reached a mutual agreement and [Chef Jerry Brahm] is going to do other things," Morrison said. "He's a wonderful chef and he's got some great ideas."

The 3000 square feet of space offers two fire places, outside seating and a wine cellar for $6500.
