Police Blotter Week of 9-26-11

Burglar helps him/herself to the fridge
On Sept. 14 police responded to a forced-entry burglary call on the 10100 block of Marine View Dr. S.W. Sometime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. an unknown burglar shattered the patio door and ransacked the entire house, including the cheese and meat drawer of the fridge. Investigators noticed a block of cheese with bite marks taken out of it and brought it to the precinct as evidence. Fingerprints were “mottled,” indicating the suspect was wearing gloves, but a saliva swab was taken with a cotton applicator for DNA analysis. If the perp is in the system and the lab results come back conclusive, the snack could be their downfall.

“If you call the police, I’ll kill you”

Sustainable Ballard members arrived by conference bike, and other Ballardites arrived via the water in kayaks and sailboats.

At Lake Union Park, there were many activities including Skate Like a Girl and stand-up paddleboard classes, climate action workshops led by Earth Ministry and the Sierra Club, the Dutch Bike Company conference bike, a Zumba flash mob led by teachers from Roosevelt, tasty food trucks, an electric vehicle rally, and much more.

Baseball memories and my favorite bat

I coulda been a contender.

If not for Bobby Pendergrass and Donny Kirsch.

The  three of us were kids crazy about baseball when we were growing up in Portland and though they never heard of me our lives intertwined.

Bobby and I were on the same baseball team at  Woodlawn grade  school. He  was the  best  hitter on our team.I sometimes got to  sit next  to him on the bench.

I never had a mitt but I did have a Louisville Slugger baseball bat and always  brought  it with me at practice. I got  it  from one of my customers when  I delivered her Oregon Journal paper one  day. One  day she  asked  me  if I played  baseball and  I said I planned  to be  big  leaguer someday. So she was impressed and went  to a hall closet  and  got a shiny baseball bat and gave  it  to me  and  said it  used  to be her son's and said I could have  it  because her son left  when he  grew up and and never came back from going  to war.

It looked  like  new so I always kept  it in my locker and took it  to the baseball games and practice.

Mountain to Sound Outfitters expansion is on track for grand re-opening Oct. 1

Mountain to Sound Outfitters is on track with it's expansion plans into the space next door to its location at 3602 s.w. Alaska Street. The 1800 square foot space directly to the east of them was occupied by Westside Auto Repair but Gary Putman closed the business in early June due to illness.

Now partners Greg Whittaker and Rob Stowell are adding on in several ways as the business grows to meet an increased demand for a local supplier of skis, boots, kayaks, skates, stand up paddle boards and all the accessories those sports require.

They've added an office space in a loft that will accommodate accounting, web development.

They will offer custom ski boot fitting in the new space, plus a large display from Thule (who is coming in to help set it up), plus some new lines including Hestra gloves, Scott gloves, goggles, poles and of course skis, Forefront skis from Colorado, Mervin with NAS skis and Gnu snowboards, plus more hats, goggles and gloves.

Think you're a Seahawk fan? Meet two of the best

There are Seahawks fans and then there are incredibly dedicated Seahawks fans. You've seen them with their 12th man jerseys, and all kinds of gear.

But there are two kids in West Seattle that bring new meaning to the term.

Michelle Shillings shared a photo of Roman Saladino and Gabe Clark who are young men that really love the team. She writes,"They do go to many games. This is the first time they had their faces painted because it is our first home game. I painted their faces this morning - they begged me to -- (they had a sleep over because they wanted to be pumped for the game all night long).

They got up at 6:00 am ready for the game!!!! They are huge fans and watch the games or go to them every chance they have. THEY LOVE THE SEATTLE SEAHAWKS!!!!! Their biggest wish is to meet the players or be on the sidelines for one game. They NEVER give up on the Seahawks no matter what their record is - true die-hard fans."

Gabe Clark is 9 years old and said " I am the twelfth man that will be the reason for our victory today - go HAWKS. Also, the sausages at the tailgate party ROCK. I love this game" -

UPDATE- SLIDESHOW: Power out for 114 homes in West Seattle now restored

1:05 pm update
Power is now back on, at least based on the service status page, for the 87 customers who were the last to get power restored.

12:50 pm update
The power that was restored briefly for the remaining 87 customers is offline again, based on the changing nature of the Seattle City service status page. Service is again expected to be restored by 3:00 pm.

12:35 update
Power now appears to be restored to West Seattle City Light customers (with the exception of a single home in the Admiral District) but the number of people affected across the city is now at 6010 (though the number of outages has declined). Most of those outages are in Northeast Seattle.

12:00 Noon update:
Power has been restored for the original 27 homes near s.w. Orchard that was interrupted by a fallen tree, caused by high winds. An additional 87 customers are still without power but the number of outages in the City Light Service area has grown to 29 with 3517 customers affected.

West Seattle Soccer Club picture day at Hamilton Viewpoint was flashy fun

Saturday Sept. 24 was picture day for the West Seattle Soccer Club and the annual event (today was for only half the league) was staged by Legends Sports Photography a Federal Way firm that specializes in team sport photos (but also offers other services).

Capturing both individuals and teams with the skyline of the City of Seattle as a background made for some memorable photos as the kids lined up, and parents and coaches prepared them to look their best by tucking in shirts, and putting on their best smiles.

It was also an occasion for looking silly on camera as the photographer kept the kids in good spirits.
