Pomeranian "Andy" stolen from White Center woman

The King County Sheriff's Office is trying to help a White Center woman who's husband recently passed away recover her Pomeranian who was stolen from the White Center Bartell's on May 19 around 5 p.m.

Here are the details from KCSO Sgt. Cindi West:

On May 19th around 5pm a small black Pomeranian named Andy was stolen from the Bartell’s Drug Store at 9600 15 Av Sw. The dog’s owner went into the store to get a prescription filled. Bartell’s would not allow Andy in the store so the owner tied him up outside and when she came out Andy was gone. Our victim is a White Center resident who adopted the dog after her husband passed away. Needless to say Andy is her companion and she is devastated.

At this point priority is to get the dog back. If you have Andy or know where he is please call Sgt. Cindi West from the King County Sheriff’s Office at 206-255-0778.

No questions will be asked if the dog is returned safely.

Here is what the owner posted and a video of the teen and woman who were seen getting on the bus with Andy.

Time is of the essence, My boy was stolen May 19, 2013.

Police Blotter Week of 6-10-13

House robbed, vehicle stolen
On June 5 a burglary victim called 911 in the afternoon to report someone had broken into his home and stolen his truck from the 8100 block of 31st Ave. S.W. Missing items from the home included two Coach purses, two Coach wallets, one Nordstrom wallet, a full jewelry box and a full box of nose tissues. Police advised their patrol about the missing truck and it was found a bit later on the 7900 block of 27th Ave. S.W. No one was inside, but the front seat was pulled tight to the steering wheel, indicating someone small (possibly a juvenile) was driving. The victim responded and stated two cups in the truck were not his, but some of the items stolen were left in the vehicle, including the jewelry box.

Not a good homecoming

UPDATE: Two fires quickly dealt with; Not related

Update 1:15pm

Kyle Moore from the Seattle Fire Department provided more information on the two fires this morning in West Seattle:

Who's that mysterious bartender? The Anchor spotted at Hattie's Hat

The Anchor, Ballard’s first superhero, was spotted at local watering hole and restaurant Hattie’s Hat last Sunday. A powerful hero needs a powerful breakfast. The Anchor was downing three plates of food: rice and beans and eggs, chicken fried chicken and a country breakfast. (He attests that all three were delicious.) After he built up some energy, he spent some time behind the bar, making drinks and telling folks all the wonderful things about SeafoodFest.

The 39th Annual Ballard SeafoodFest takes place on July 13 and 14 in the downtown core of Ballard along Market St and Ballard Ave. To learn more, visit www.seafoodfest.org

Take Two # 80: Mental Health in Washington State

Kyra-lin Hom

Before anything else, I need to make a correction to last week's column. Based on the statistics that currently 1 in 5 high school-age boys and 1 in 11 high school-age girls in the US are medically diagnosed with ADHD, I said that a high school with a student population of 2,000 would have 580 students diagnosed with ADHD. That was wrong. My statistics forgot that gender is mutually exclusive. The actual number of students that would be diagnosed out of 2,000 is approximately 290.

The irony of this happening right after I wrote a column on the benefits of understanding mathematics is not lost on me. For those who are interested:

My original calculations: (1/5)(2000) + (1/11)(2000) = approximately 580
New calculations: (1/5)(1000 boys) + (1/11)(1000 girls) = approximately 290

Though not the original massive figure of 580 students, 290 is still definitely not a figure to be dismissed. That breaks down to an average of 4.64 high school students diagnosed with ADHD per class room.

Instant Gratification

By Georgie Bright Kunkel

Occasionally I tap into Dr. Phil’s taking on the extremely disturbed segment of society and I cannot believe the family disorientation that exists. Even though in my school counseling career I was confronted with some fairly serious family problems I could not imagine a 24 year old son who was holding his parents hostage while his brother feared for his own life. Here was certainly a case of extreme behavior brought on by parents who did not know how to set limits and require their children to learn restraint.
