UPDATE: Redline sports bar to open late next week; After months of delays

Lounge, restaurant, coffee shop plans on being family and commuter friendly

UPDATE 5pm Oct. 25

Scott Goerig, owner of the original Redline Sports Bar on 35th S.W. , said on Friday Oct. 25 that the soft open for the NEW Redline West Seattle would come most likely late next week Oct. 31 or Nov. 1. He's been busy in the construction industry since the original Redline closed and is anxious to get back in business, "filling two needs in West Seattle for both a sports bar and a family oriented pizza restaurant." The Herald is planning a look inside the new bar/restaurant and will give you a sneak peek early next week.

Original Post Oct 20
The long delayed sports bar, Redline West Seattle, which once occupied the location near S.W. Avalon Way and 35th S.W. (now occupied by The Bridge, also soon to leave that site), is aiming at a soft open the weekend of Oct 26-27 in its new location across the street, if all goes according to plan, this from a reliable source close to the company.

A sign is in the window saying they are actively hiring so it's getting close.

The restaurant/lounge/coffee shop is located at 3478 S.W. Avalon Way.

Violent crime near Roxhill Park puts community on edge

Over the course of four days in October there were two stabbings and a vicious beating that all occurred within a block of each other near Roxhill Park and the Westwood Shopping Village in West Seattle, and the sudden uptick in crime has many in the community wondering just what is going on.

In the first incident, the Seattle Police Gang Unit is investigating a double stabbing on Oct. 10 that sent two young victims – one 21 and the other only 15 – to Harborview Medical Center with multiple stab wounds. Friends of the victims told police they were hanging out at Westwood Village in the evening when they got into an argument with a group of males. Words led to fists and, according to witnesses, one of the males produced a knife and stabbed the victims. The suspect in still outstanding.

UPDATE 2: UFCW21 union reports tentative agreement reached with grocers; Strike off for now

Update for 5:15 p.m., Oct. 21
Union representatives are reporting a tentative agreement has been reached with several regional grocers, likely averting the strike that was supposed to start at 7 p.m. tonight, Oct. 21.

UFCW 21 made the following announcement via their Facebook page:

"We are very pleased to announce that today at 5 PM the union member bargaining team from UFCW 21 & 367 and Teamsters 38 reached a tentative agreement with the national grocery chains in contract negotiations.

"This tentative agreement has been unanimously recommended by the union member bargaining team. Details will not to be released until after union members themselves have had the opportunity to review the tentative agreement and vote on it. The times and locations of those vote meetings will be announced in the coming days after arrangements have been made to schedule the votes."

Assuming union members vote the new agreement through a strike will be averted.

Over 20,000 unionized grocery store workers from UFCW21, UFCW 367 and Teamsters 38 made official notice at 7 p.m. on Oct. 18 that they will begin a strike 72 hours from that time.
