New Exhibit at Burien Community Center

Burien Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services is pleased to present an exhibition by artist Mark Davidson at the Burien Community Center. The exhibition titled “The Evolution of the Fish” will be on display through the end of November.

Mark has always enjoyed the different perspectives portrayed in Native American wildlife art. These perspectives range from traditional to abstract to caricature. In this exhibit, Mark has displayed an evolution of skill development and techniques, as well as portraying the characteristics of the fish. In some cases the art looks like a familiar salmon and in others, it morphs into a common fish. Mark enjoys the versatility of transforming slabs of clay into 3 dimensional objects. Trends in the series show stamped textures and raised panels as well as different techniques of wiped off glazes and stains to bring out details to create the evolution of the collection.

Evergreen loses to Lakeside 56-26

By Tim Clinton
SPORTS EDITOR

It was a roller coaster ride for the Evergreen High School football team.

At first the Wolverines stayed neck-and-neck with Lakeside of Seattle, then they fell behind by a 56-12 score early in the third quarter to bring on the running clock mercy rule.

Evergreen then scored two quick touchdowns to make it 56-26 by the end of the third quarter, before both teams settled in to go scoreless the rest of the way.

The Lions of Lakeside scored first in Friday's non-league affair at Highline Memorial.

Quarterback Adam Hinthorne connected with Mike Padden for a 34-yard touchdown pass play, then Trevor Peterson kicked the extra point to make it 7-0 with 5:04 to play in the first quarter.

Evergreen of White Center came right back to score at the 3:53 mark, when Rafael Bourne struck on a 42-yard touchdown run around the right side.

The Wolverines failed to catch up to the Lions, however, as the kick for the extra point missed to leave the score at 7-6.

Political Firestorm

By Georgie Bright Kunkel

There appears to be no way to unseat the profit makers that have hidden their assets in foreign countries. The power that has attempted to buy Congress and advertised the sleeping public into oblivion continues to reap big profits at our expense. We amebas are relegated to worrying about bad breath and visiting places that claim they can make us look like the airbrushed beauties in movie magazines. The latest scam of our political energy is the abortion issue. It doesn’t cost anything for Congress to focus on that controversial never ending fight while numerous other life threatening issues are pushed to the sidelines. Now, don’t get me wrong. That issue is important to women who want to control their own bodies.

Balloon causes power outage near Morgan Junction

A power outage is impacting a number of businesses and homes near the Seattle City Light power facility at 42nd Ave. S.W. and S.W. Morgan St. in West Seattle, where power lines are apparently down (as of 4 p.m. on Oct. 7). The cause is still under investigation but Seattle Police and City Light on the scene said it was caused by a mylar balloon.

First reports of outages started coming in during the 2 o’clock hour.

The full extent of the outage is unknown as SCL’s online map does not automatically track outages in this area that run on an older wire distribution system, according to SCL Spokesman Scott Thomsen.
