Slideshow: Seattle Christian softball returns to state

SPANAWAY - Inclement weather was the winner at the Sat.-Sun. scheduled activity of the 2016 West Central District III Class 1A fast pitch softball tournament at the Sprinker Fields.

With a steady rain Sat., May 21, and more expected Sun., plus a dearth of available umpires, cancellation of seeding games and a delay of winner-to-state, loser-out match ups, "power rankings" were utilized to determine the actual seeding to state.

Seattle Christian was poised to play Bellevue Christian for the fourth time this season, but tournament officials selected the Lady Warriors as the No. 1 seed out of district into the state tournament at Richland on May 27-28 and Bellevue Christian No. 2 based on relative Nisqually League standings. Seattle Christian was the undefeated regular season Nisqually League champion while BC finished second. The Lady Warriors also defeated Bellevue Christian three times in league.

The game for the third and last seed to state between Chimacum and Klahowya was scheduled for Mon. at 1 p.m.

A true story about fishing

Editor's note: The author is Irish and a known prevaricator. Choose to believe his story if you wish…

by Tim Robinson

Above Covington, east of Kent, in the summer, the Green River runs low and clear. The deep pools of emerald water wend their way downstream, like crinkled foil, reflecting a flash of light; the cool life's blood of fish and other aquatic curiosities , makes its way to the Kent valley.

The promise of 80-degree weather hurried my morning activities. The alarm clock had shaken my senses at 5:30 a.m... We're goin fishun'.

With my arm securely resting on my cooler of sandwiches and beer, my wife caught some extra zzz's as the dawn lit the highway before me. I envisioned thoughts of lunkers finning in the depths.

We selected a proper spot at the river's edge and set up camp.  I prepared my gear while my wife went foraging for flora and fauna collectibles.

On this section of the river steep rock banks protect and guide the water on its rippling journey. Large shadows from those banks create dark havens for steelhead trout. Calmly they wait. They must be patient for the next freshet of rain water to advance their upstream journey.

Fed up resident confronts alleged bike thief
Police were called after a Burien man confronted two men who he believed were thieves. The incident took place on the afternoon of April 22 when the man was on his way home near the Burien Annex Community Center in Burien’s Chelsea Park neighborhood. The man told police that he noticed two men that he believed to be homeless youth, pushing a high-end women’s road bicycle and began watching them. From his home the man saw the two men attempting to hide the bike behind some bushes at the Annex. He then pretended to call the police in front of the men and when they attempted to flee with the bike, he confronted them claiming they had stolen the bicycle from a local house. The two men abandoned the bike and fled the scene on foot. The Burien resident then dialed 911 and turned the bike into police along with a description of the two men. The man told responding officers that he confronted the men because his home had recently been robbed and he wants to live in a community where people look out for each other.
