Why Can’t I Meditate?

By Beth Dayo

My mind is too busy! I keep forgetting to pay attention! I can’t sit still. I don’t have time. I have other important things to do. I know I “should” but months go by and I still haven’t.

If you have experienced any or all of these, you are not alone. I’ve been there too. I once tried a meditation exercise that instructed me to notice each time I passed through a doorway. The point was for the mental recognition of passing through the door to slow you down and create more presence. The problem was, it required presence, which I apparently did not have. I had exactly one instance of remembering to notice the door, and that was well after passing through it, when I realized, “shoot, I was supposed to notice that.”

Seafair Pirates take the beach and Seattle again; Seafair 75 is underway

The Seafair Pirates did it again. They hit the beach on Saturday afternoon to the delight of a sizeable crowd to  "take over" the city and offiicaly kick off Seattle's Seafair 75th aniversary celebration.

In typical pirate fashion the pirates fooled everybody. They were probably 400 hundred yards away from the bath house when they decided to make a hard turn to port and land there. It was a  scramble to the beach to try and get there to greet them as their landing craft came ashore.

From there King Neptune, KING TV's Chris Cashman and Queen Halcyon were on hand for the annual award of the key to the city by King County Executive Dow Constantine.

Westsiders win 11s title

By Tim Clinton

SPORTS EDITOR

It wasn't doing things the easy way, but it was getting them done just the same.

The if necessary game became necessary when the West Seattle age 9-11 Little League baseball all-star team was knocked off, 2-0, by Rainier District in Tuesday's provisional championship.

That forced a second game to be played Wednesday, and this time the Westsiders won, 5-2, to be crowned as the District 7 champions.

West Seattle advances to the state tournament now, opening with a 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20 game against District 5 at the Bombing Range Sports Complex in West Richland.

West Seattle began its District 7 title quest with a 10-0 win over Renton this past Friday and followed it up with a 12-2 victory over Rainier District the next day.

That set up a Sunday meeting with South Highline National in the winner's bracket final that West Seattle won, 10-0.
