BURIEN - Class 1A Seattle Christian played well against 4A Woodinville before precision 3-point shooting by the Falcons proved the difference in a Warrior 78-68 boys basketball loss on Tues., Dec. 26 in the 2017 Sterling Shootout at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School.
"Our defense couldn't stop the 3-pointers," Warrior head coach Micheal Watts said. "Our offense was good."
Seattle Christian passed the ball well for good shot opportunities in a 9-0 opening game blitz and continued to gain a solid first quarter foothold at 15-5, but Woodinville started nailing down 3-pointers to trail only 20-16.
The Falcons fired off six consecutive points to open the second quarter to lead 22-20. Zac VanderLey tied the game at 22.
Later in the quarter, Jared Cattell downed a 3-pointer for SC's final lead of the game.
Woodinville continued to lead by small margins before unleashing more 3-point conversions to lead 47-40 in the third quarter.
Seattle Christian got no closer than five points thereafter.
The lead ballooned to 14 points in the fourth quarter.
Connor Knack converted a three to draw SC within 75-68, but the KingCo League Falcons pulled away at the end.
Zac VanderLey twisted and turned for 26 points on 12-of-20 shooting and collected 13 caroms.
"It's been helpful playing against more physical teams," he said. "It's helping us get ready for league."
Cattell shined for 22 points and six assists as Spencer's Howell scored eight points. Harrison Hohimer added six points.
Cade Christopher, Cage Schenk, Josiah Bush and Evan Riseland led the Falcon point barrage with 21, 20, 17 and 11, respectively.
Shooting 8-of-13 from beyond the 3-point arc in the first half, Woodinville reached an accuracy level of 14-of-21 before closing out at 14-of-24. SC was 6-of-19 from three.
Lindbergh loomed as the next foe.
