McPhee, Cardinal make Final Four

Mount Rainier High School graduate Brittany McPhee and the Stanford Cardinal women's basketball team made it all the way to the NCAA Final Four before losing to eventual champion South Carolina in a semifinal this past Friday, 62-53.
The Cardinal finished with a 32-6 record with the help of McPhee, a starting junior guard whose family now lives in West Seattle.
McPhee played in 37 of the team's 38 games, averaging 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists. She also had a total of 30 steals and 34 blocks.

Collier contributes for Washington

Seattle Christian graduate Katie Collier helped the University of Washington women's basketball team into the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA tournament before the Huskies' run ended with a 75-64 loss to Mississippi State on March 24. They made the Final Four the year before.
Collier averaged 6.4 points per game as a senior this season along with 5.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists. She had a total of 15 steals and 38 blocked shots.

Giomi, Ducks reach Elite Eight

West Seattle graduate Lydia Giomi did not see action for the Oregon Ducks beyond the preseason as a freshman this year, but they made it all the way to the NCAA Elite Eight.
Their season ended with a 90-52 loss to defending champion Connecticut.

Barnette makes Rangers' roster

For the second year in a row Thomas Jefferson graduate Tony Barnette is on the Texas Rangers' opening day roster as a member of the bullpen.
Barnette is a right-hander who spent six years pitching in Japan before being picked up by the Rangers last year.

Kela demoted after clubhouse incident

Chief Sealth graduate Keone Kela was sent down to the minor league camp by the Texas Rangers right before the end of spring training after being involved in an unspecified clubhouse incident. Kela is also a right-handed bullpen member of the Rangers' organization.

Brett to start season in Durham

Coming off a season recuperating from Tommy John Surgery to his elbow last year, Highline High School graduate Ryan Brett will start this year playing second base for the Durham Bulls of the Tampa Bay Rays organization.
Brett is 2-for-3 career for the parent Tampa Bay club and was invited to their camp again this spring as a non-roster player.

Conger ready to play for Aces

Federal Way native Hank Conger is now on the roster for the Reno Aces of the Arizona Diamondbacks organization as a catcher.
Conger has previous Major League Baseball experience with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays.

Ishikawa still a free agent

Federal Way graduate Travis Ishikawa is still looking for a place to play baseball this year as a free agent first baseman, outfielder and pinch hitter.
Ishikawa finished last year with the Sacramento Rivercats of the San Francisco Giants organization.
