BURIEN - Early attacking defense triggered quick striking offense for West Seattle in a devastating 76-25 defeat of Lindbergh High School in an opening round boys basketball game of the Sterling Christmas Shootout at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School on Tues., Dec. 26.
Right from the outset, the Wildcats dictated a torrid pace.
Normally, West Seattle works a methodical, passing offense, but on this night, the Wildcats created many opportunities to fast tempo their opponents
"We like to run when we can," said Wildcat head coach Keffrey Fazio. "They played well. Sometimes, the defense plays well and they start having a good time moving the ball, as well."
West Seattle initiated early action by creating chaos on defensive steals and hurries.
Leading 10-5, the Westsiders continued to eschew their normal, control half court offense for quick, zippy passes and full court runs to pull out to a 23-10 lead after one quarter.
WS kept slicing and dicing away to mushroom it's already sizable lead.
With the huge lead, the running West Seattle Wildcats were able to dip into their reservoir of reserves while still building up the lead until it reached a game-high 51 points at the end.
Ten WS players scored with Abdullahi Mohammed leading at 16 points. Anthony Giomi registered 14 points while Elijah Nnanabu posted 11 points. Roman Barnet fired home 10 points.
Next up is potent 3-point shooting Woodinville on Wednesday.
