Out and about: Seattle Opera makes Cosi local

Unless you live in Paris or Prague, it's not often that the characters in a major opera are singing about your hometown.

In the current production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte at the Seattle Opera, which first premiered in Vienna on January 26, 1790, the lead male characters, Ferrando and Guglielmo, make their entrances in the second half in disguise, announcing they are now two wild and crazy guys from Federal Way.

The 2500 attendees on opening night on February 25 roared with laughter.

Anthony Hogan shadows Senator Eide in Olympia

Today he's a shadow, but don't be surprised if soon others are following his lead. Anthony Hogan, a freshman at Todd Beamer High School, asked Sen. Tracey J. Eide, D-Federal Way, if he could follow her for a day in Olympia. She had sponsored his paging stint last session. Still smitten with the legislative bug, Anthony asked to return for a more in-depth view of the Senate.

"I was thrilled that this obviously bright and inquisitive student wanted to learn more," Eide said.

William A. Humes

William A. Humes, 76, passed away February 22, 2006, at home. He was the beloved husband for 54 years of Elsie; father of Sue (Cliff) Gihring, Cheri (Jim) Dana, Dusty (Cheri) Humes and Robert (Jenny) Humes; and is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister Betty Heath.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Korean War. He retired from Boeing in 1989. He will be dearly missed by all.

Services with Military Honor will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 S.E. 240th St., Kent.

Robert Durnil

Beloved husband to Michele and father of Kimberly, Robert and his wife Jaimie.

Bob passed away on Feb. 25, 2006, at Highline Medical Center in Burien. Born in the town of Long Island, Kansas, he was 67 years old.

He enjoyed a career as a machinist, eventually retiring from Boeing after 35 years of service.

Martha Jean Van Buskirk

Martha Jean ("Marty") Van Buskirk passed away quietly at the age of 82 on February 22, 2006 in Portland, Oregon after complications from a hip fracture and surgery. Marty was born in Seattle on October 11, 1923, grew up in her beloved West Seattle neighborhood, joined the Navy after graduation from High School in 1942, and married the love of her life, "Van" in 1946. Marty loved people, fashion, and travel!! For sixteen years Mary was a salesperson in the former Frederick & Nelson Silver Department in downtown Seattle.

James William Chidgey

James William Chidgey, our father, grandfather and friend left this life on December 25, 2005. He will be remembered by his family as a father who loved us deeply throughout all our lives.

Jim was born on June 24, 1927 in Clark Mills, New York. He and his family moved to Seattle in October 1942. He graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1947 after spending two years in the Navy during WWII.

Dale Eldon Widner

Dale Eldon Widner Sr., age 71 of Ronald, WA, died February 23, 2006 at the VA Hospital in Seattle. He was a former resident of West Seattle.

Dale was born March 25, 1934 in Seattle to Floyd and Gudrun (Gunderson) Widner. Dale grew up in the Seattle/Tacoma area and in Portland, OR. He graduated from Washington High School in Portland in 1952. Dale was an active minister of Jehovah's Witnesses for nearly 50 years.

Dale was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

A young girl visited several neighborhoods, going door-to-door selling
