The Lazy Gardener gives us tips for dealing with toxic Hogweed

Uncommonly dry weather this early in the summer means having a water conservation plan in mind. Maintaining an attractive garden requires about one inch of rain or other watering per week. As we head into our typically dry summer, the case for using native plants in the landscape becomes more apparent.

Native plants are attuned to the climate and other environmental conditions. Of course, there is some debate among aficionados as to what constitutes "native".

Your paper is going to pot

To the Editor:

In the Federal Way News, a picture on the back page upset me very much.

I picked up the News at a restaurant in Federal Way and lost my appetite when I saw the picture of the young man smoking marijuana. I looked around for the accompanying news story about the growing problem of drugs in Federal Way, and could not find any story to explain the picture.

The publishing of this picture is offensive to me as it glorifies the use of smoking marijuana. The caption even told potheads where they can go smoke it without being caught!
