Wine tastings flow

There's a wine revolution occurring in the Highline communities of Burien and Des Moines.

Wine tastings, wine pairings and wine dinners are becoming the social events of the week.

Led by Burien's own E.B. Foote Winery and CorkyCellars in Des Moines, such Burien players as Osteria da Primo, Vino Bello, Dino's and The Mark are joining the revolution.

"The wine resurgence can be attributed to the Washington Wine Commission who promotes our state's wines very well," said Sherrill Miller of E.B.

Two arrested, charged with cemetery vase thefts

Two men were arrested last week for the thefts of brass cemetery vases from Washington Memorial Park in SeaTac. Both men were booked into King County Jail for investigation of possession of stolen property.

At least 200 grave vases were stolen in recent weeks from the SeaTac cemetery and Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bellevue. The five-pound vases are worth about $150 each.

One suspect is a 44 year-old Burien man who was arrested after detectives determined he sold at least 89 of the vases at metal recyclers around King County.

Kennedy crushes Skyline in playoff opener

For John F. Kennedy Catholic High School, the answers to victory were blowin' in the wind on the rain-soaked turf at Burien's Highline Memorial Stadium on Friday.

Launching long air strikes from its wizard-like Wing-T weaponry, Kennedy rained deadly dosages of destruction in a 61-20 devastation of Skyline in a preliminary round game of the Washington state Class 3A football championship playoffs.

With the win, the No. 4 Lancers (10-0) set up a colossal confrontation with defending champion and third-ranked Ferndale at Highline Stadium this weekend.
