Thieves steal more than 540 eggs from Luna Park Cafe

Information from Seattle Police Blotter

Seattle police are investigating after thieves hatched a plan to steal hundreds of eggs and other breakfast foods from a West Seattle cafe in the early morning hours of Feb. 5.

Officers responded to the Luna Park Cafe in the 2900 block of Southwest Avalon Way at about 4:42 a.m. after someone at the business reported the rotten activity seen live on security cameras. Two men entered a refrigerated shed at the restaurant and removed boxes containing an estimated 540 eggs, worth about $387, as well as bacon, ground beef, blueberries and liquid egg products. They were then seen on video loading the items into a van before egg-celerating from the business.

In total, the items in this breakfast heist were worth about a shell-shocking $780.

Federal government to reconsider Duwamish Tribe’s status

The Duwamish Tribe has been granted a new opportunity to seek federal recognition, following a recent court ruling that ordered the Department of the Interior to reevaluate the tribe’s petition. This decision comes after over fifty years of persistent efforts by the Duwamish to prove their legitimacy to the U.S. government.

The Duwamish Tribe, descendants of Chief Seattle, have long fought for acknowledgment from the federal government. Their ancestral lands cover much of present-day King County. Despite signing a treaty in the 1800s ceding thousands of acres to the United States, the tribe's claims have been repeatedly denied over the past century, with federal officials arguing that the Duwamish had effectively ceased to exist, being absorbed into other Native American groups.

Looking back to step ahead

By Beth Dayo

Looking back at life can be hard, especially during times we find ourselves stuck there. You know, when something went wrong, didn’t turn out as you wanted. Times you find yourself stuck replaying what happened on an endless feedback loop. In this scenario it’s easy to assume that reflecting on the past isn’t helpful—it feels like dwelling. The all too common adage these days, “Let it go.” But how?

Why Looking Back Can Feel Stuck

The usual way we revisit the past is from an energy of wanting or resisting—a literal trying to change what is now unchangeable. This kind of looking back is an attempt to avoid the emotion of the present as it is. Since there is no possibility of change the mind gets stuck here trying to resolve the unfelt emotion of the experience.

West Seattle Comedy Competition: Where your laughs mean everything

West Seattle is set to host a unique live comedy experience, "Washington's Funniest Mammal Comedy Competition," on Friday, February 7 and Saturday Feb. 8, 8pm at the Great American Diner and Bar 4752 California Ave SW.

This isn't just another comedy show; it's a high-stakes competition where audience members become the judges, wielding the power to make or break a comedian's dream.

The event is the first round of a statewide competition, where comedians will be vying for a $2,000 top prize. Ten comedians will take the stage each night, pouring their hearts out in the hopes of gaining the approval of the audience. The comedians may be more desperate for the audience's approval than for the prize itself, because the promoters say they  "never earned their parents’ approval either."
