Helen M. Dore

Helen M. Dore passed away March 12, 2007 after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Peter L. Dore. She is survived by two sons Steven Dore (Rhonda) of Marysville, Wash.; Kevin Dore (Karen) of Spanaway; three grandchildren Andrew Dore; Heather Dore; Seth Dore; four sisters Dorothy Bertrand of Seattle; Sylvia Haguewood of Bothell; Marcella Clemenhagen of Vancouver, Wash. and Faith Rogers of Lynnwood.

Helen was very devoted to her family and was an avid volunteer at the Puget Sound Blood Bank and Ronald McDonald house.

Ana Maria Campano Arroyo McBurney Gallegos

Ana was born on May 14, 1940 in Seville, Spain. She passed away peacefully at home with her family and friends at her side on March 2, 2007 after a courageous fight against cancer.

Ana is survived by her children Mari McBurney, Tina Stariha, Lawrence McBurney, Lee Ana Lagle, Jolon Gallegos and their families. She is also survived by a sister and brother in Spain, six grandchildren, and many cherished friends around the world.

As a young bride, Ana moved to West Seattle from Spain in 1964 and raised her five children in the area.

Dr. John R. Cowell

(1920-2007) Notable concert pianist, organist, composer and teacher Dr. John R. Cowell succumbed to a heart attack on March 4, 2007, as he entered Peace Lutheran Church for Sunday services, with his wife Eleanor on his arm.

Dr. Cowell was born to a musical household in Springhouse, Pa. in 1920, youngest of seven siblings. His parents nurtured his talent and he lived a life of stellar accomplishment in the world of music, progressing from talented prodigy to renowned composer and concert pianist, respected professor and educator.

James R. Hixon

October 1, 1918 - March 6, 2007.

Preceded in death by father, George T. and mother, Mary E. and sister, Barbara De Vinck.

Survived by siblings Ruth Veenhuizen of Renton, Carol Olivotti of San Anselmo, Jerry Taylor of Portland, George E. and Jackie Larsen of Seattle; nephews Brian Cook, Michael Olivotti and Timothy Larsen; niece Cynthia Hickman and numerous cousins who wrote to him faithfully.

He was a graduate of the Seattle School for the Deaf.

Edward Joseph Leskovar

Edward Joseph Leskovar passed away at the age of 90 on March 14, 2007, at his home in West Seattle with his family present.

Ed was born in Helena, Montana, on October 1, 1916 and graduated from Butte High School.

He married Louise Lousen on October 4, 1941 in Butte, Montana. They moved to Seattle in August, 1942. Ed worked at the Boeing Company and retired after 41 years.

He enjoyed travel with many trips throughout the United States, Caribbean, Europe, also camping and fishing in Canada and on Hood Canal with his family and friends.

Marjory O'Connor Smith

Marjory O'Connor Smith, 88, died March 2 at home in Andover, Kan., surrounded by her devoted family.

Marjory O'Connor was born Sept. 28, 1918 on a farm in Macksville, Kan. She grew up riding horses with her sister Pat and brothers Ed and Bob. In the midst of the Great Depression, Marge went to college and became a schoolteacher. She met her husband Jack Smith, a military pilot, while teaching in a one-room school in rural Kansas.

Marilyn Inez Howard (nee Miller-Noratuk)

Born in Seattle on December 15, 1944 and passed away suddenly on Oct 27, 2006. Marilyn is survived by two daughters, Joleen Noratuk (Howard) and Mary L. Howard, along with three grandsons, Michael Diaz, Donovan and Alexzander Noratuk. A memorial is scheduled for March 25, 2007. E-mail for details on location and time to biggreymon@yahoo.com.

Alice Josephine Howe Holmberg

Alice Holmberg, April 25, 1914 - February 10, 2007, a longtime West Seattle resident, passed away peacefully at age 92 in Yakima, Wash. She was the oldest of eight children born to William and Daisy Page Howe in Augusta, Ga.

World War II and the Army brought Norman to Georgia to meet and marry Alice in 1944; they spent 58 years together, 57 residing in Seattle. Alice was a devoted homemaker, supportive partner to his career with Safeway Stores and mother to three children. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends as well as playing cards. She also belonged to St.

Rosemarie Whitehouse

Rosemarie was born February 20, 1926, in Pasco to Charles and Mary Lee Hubert. She died February 22, 2007, in Seattle at the age of 81.

She graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1944 and attended Washington State College for two years. She married Loren Whitehouse in 1947. They moved to Seattle in 1955 and lived in Burien for 52 years.

Rosemarie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Loren L.
