PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

The City of Burien will hold a public hearing on Monday, June 19, 2006, for the purpose of : Receiving citizens' comments on Proposed Cable Television Franchise with Comcast of Washington IV, Inc. The hearing will be in the Council Chambers at 415 SW 150th Street at approximately 7:00 p.m.

Sign language and communication in alternate format can be arranged given sufficient notice.

Speakers support school resource officers

Troubled youth could be placed at even higher risk if school resource officers (SROs) at three Highline District high schools are eliminated through budget cuts to offset a revenue shortfall.

This was the message from several concerned citizens who spoke to Highline School Board members at their May 24 meeting.

Superintendent John Welch recently suggested that the district stop funding SROs at the Highline, Evergreen and Tyee campuses to cut costs.

Candles will light track to honor cancer victims

A special luminaria ceremony during this weekend's American Cancer Society Relay For Life-of Highline will remember those lost to cancer and honor those who have survived.

This year's Relay For Life-of Highline - described by organizers as a "celebration of life" - will begin Saturday, June 10, at 3 p.m. and continue until 9 a.m. Sunday, June 11, at the Olympic Middle School track, 615 S.
