NEW Parents question school closure process

As the district moves closer to making a final recommendation regarding school closures, parents and staff at West Seattle schools have grown frustrated with the process and are voicing their objections to the school board.

To address a project $24 million deficit in their 2009 budget, the Seattle School District is looking to close some schools across the city and relocate others. There is also an imbalance in capacity across the city.

Bad singing and good games as the tradition lives on

'Tis the season for Christmas regifting.

In that holiday spirit, I present a column that first ran in the very memorable year of 2001. It was headlined, "Not an Osmond Family Special but family is special on holiday."

I can't express what Christmas means to me any better.

The column needs a little updating.

Our Christmas Eve gathering is no longer at the old family home in Burien.

Egregious use

You probably have noticed that The Highline Times has recently run a couple of articles about the Third Runway at Sea-Tac Airport, and how many of the airport neighbors in surrounding cities are feeling "duped" because we were told (promised) that the runway was to be used as an alternate to the existing two in inclement weather, and now, it is obvious that it is being used daily.

The Port has even admitted that it "will be used 365 days a year."

I personally also believe that they are using it for takeoffs as well.

Step backward

"Two cities agree on annexation." That was the headline on Dec. 17th in the Highline Times.

The city council seems totally oblivious on what is happening in the real world of finances. The federal government is running a deficit. The state is on the verge of creating a deficit.

SeaTac Santa family brings toys to foster kids

Imagine turning your family loose in a department store at Christmas and telling everyone to fill several shopping carts.

Just spend! Grab items off the shelf! Don't worry about the cost!

Boys purchase the "boy toys" and girls get the "girl toys."

It is a whirlwind of a shopping trip. It can also be difficult to fathom the feeling of such a shopping frenzy.

One SeaTac family can actually tell how it feels, because it is a holiday tradition.

Meet Pam and John Cowin.
