Cause of death released, but no new leads in Beach Drive murder

It has been over two months since the body of Greggette Guy was found floating in the Puget Sound near Cormorant Cove Park in West Seattle, and police are still actively investigating and listening for tips in her murder.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office cause of death in Guy’s passing is “sharp force injury of the neck and asphyxia due to drowning.” Medical examiners determined it was a homicide.

Det. Renee Witt with the Seattle Police Department said the injury to Guy’s neck could have been caused by a knife, but the implement used, or who used it, is still unknown.

Witt said there have been no new leads in the case recently, and encouraged anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound.

In late April, Guy’s family put up a $10,000 reward (in addition to $1,000 offered by Crime Stoppers) for tips leading to an arrest in the case.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call 911, the Seattle Police Homicide Tip Line at 206-233-5000, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

UPDATED: Anita's Crepes' farmers market stand closed by health inspector; owner says they'll be back soon

Public Health of Seattle and King County informs us that the Anita's Crepes stand at the Ballard Farmers Market was closed by a Public Health food inspector on Sunday, May 20, for a number of violations.

The report stated that Anita's failed to obtain variance for vacuum packaging salmon, kept potentially hazardous foods at unsafe temperatures, lacked handwashing facilities for food handlers which counts as an imminent health hazard.

The establishment will be reopened once the inspector confirms that all issues have been resolved.

Owner Anita Ross said she is really disappointed by the situation but the stand will be back soon.

"I was so disappointed with the whole situation because I wasn't there," she said.

Ross explained that the health inspector's main concern was that nitrate was being used to cure the salmon. But the inspector has since visited the restaurant to see how the salmon is smoked in the restaurant.

"It was really just a little mix-up there," she said. "Everything has been cleared."

Gregerson nails down Class 4A state tennis seed

AUBURN - Tenacity turned the tide completely in the direction of a Des Moines athlete on Saturday, May 19, at Auburn-Riverside High School.

Senior tennis player Alexis Gregerson of Mount Rainier nailed down a Class 4A girls singles berth out of the West Central/Southwest Bi- District tennis tournament in concluding action at Auburn-Riverside High School on Saturday, May 19.

After maneuvering through perilous ground the previous Saturday, Gregerson entered the next weekend with two wins and one loss, but within one victory of a state tournament spot.

Wasting little time, Gregerson began her morning with a state qualifying 6-0, 6-2, defeat of Gemma Robinson from Olympia. The Ram netter used deep strokes to the baseline and passing shots to control most of the sometimes long lasting points.

The second set produced opposition that required more tenacity, but the Mount Rainier ace gutted it out to victory.

Police Blotter Week of 5-21-12

Weekend burglary foiled
These days, attempted burglaries tend to occur on weekdays while victims (and their neighbors) are more likely away at work. On Sunday, May 13, a juvenile male bucked the trend and broke into a 1400 S.W. Cambridge St. home around 3 p.m. Problem being (in his case), the victims’ neighbor was home and watched the suspect run through their yard. She yelled at him and the suspect ran off with a female accomplice who was keeping watch. Police investigated and found the young thief had scuttled through a dog door to get inside and stole a plastic cup full of loose change. The neighbor’s yelling scared him off and he left the cup of change sitting on the ground.
