E. Esther Craig

Passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2006 in her West Seattle Home. Born October 14, 1916 in Bullock, South Dakota to John and Annie Jernberg from Finland. Proud of her Finnish Background, Esther moved to Long Beach California during WWII to work as "Rosie the Riveter" for the Boeing Company. Her small stature allowed her to squeeze into small areas for intricate precision work. While in Long Beach at a USO dance she met the love of her life, Laurence Alvord Craig, whom she married June 14, 1946.

Harry W. Carlson

Harry Carlson long time resident of West Seattle passed away July 21st 2006 at Judson Park Healthcare Center in Des Moines at the age of 86.

He is survived by his loving wife Marie L. Carlson of 64 years, three daughters; Janet Starr (Doug) of Covington, June Oczkewecz (Mike) of West Seattle and Joanne Johnson (Steve) of Gig Harbor and seven grandchildren.

Harry was a WWII Veteran and served in Germany with the Timberwolfs 104th Infantry Div. He was a very loving, caring and hardworking husband and father.

Violet Jane Carbaugh

Violet Jane Carbaugh, a caring and giving woman who left an impression on the hearts of all those that knew her, gently passed away July 7, 2006.

She was born in Arkansas Nov. 20, 1941, to EB and Carrie Treat. She moved with her family to Seattle on Dec. 31, 1943.

Jane worked as a cook with the Highline School District. She was an artist creating pottery with her husband. Her favorite pastimes were reading, cooking, dancing, gardening, treasure hunting, and storytelling.

Survivors include her husband, Ray, of 46 years, and her son, Ritch.

Sandra (Sandy) Campbell

Sandra (Sandy) Campbell of Wishram, Wash., passed away unexpectedly July 12. She was born July 27, 1944, to Glen and Wilma Howell in Massena, Iowa.

She's survived by her husband, Ken Campbell, of 36 years; daughters Shelly (Chauncey) Johnston of Des Moines, and Kelly (Jerry) Van Dyke of Renton; grandchildren Hailey, David and Kerry; and sisters Mitzie (John) Kerslake of Corbett, Ore., Patsy Fifer of Wishram, Wash., and Norma (Skip) Carsey of Goldendale, Wash. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Gary Howell.

Margaret (Buxel) Allsopp

Never met a stranger, always sharing, always caring.

Margaret (Buxel) Allsopp died June 21, 2006. She was born July 2, 1919, grew up in Des Moines, attended Des Moines Elementary School and graduated from Highline High School in 1938. With economic times tough during the Depression, the Buxel family lived in a three-room house with outdoor plumbing. Overlooking Mt. Rainer and Puget Sound, the house sat on "Poverty Hill."

William "Bill" (Wonderful) Welch

Dad was born January 29, 1920 in Baltimore, Maryland and went to be with his Lord Jesus on July 8, 2006. He died of old age, as the word given to him from Psalms 91:16 states, "With long life I will satisfy him, and show him my salvation."

He is survived by his children, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Pat, of 56 years.

A devoted Christian, Dad served many years as deacon at his church.

Marguerite Thirmens Strandrud

Marguerite Thiemens Stranrud pass away July 7, 2006 in the Alzheimer unit at Park West Care Center in West Seattle at age 89. She was born August 25, 1916 in Ephrata, Washington - a land of sagebrush and jackrabbits during her childhood, now a land of green fields.

She worked as a beautician until the 1939 beginning of a 66-year devoted marriage. She and her husband, Halvor Strandrud, lived in nine different states before settling down to their West Seattle home for half a century.

Leland J. "Lee" Edwards

March 20, 1932 - July 8, 2006

Leland J. "Lee" Edwards, age 74, passed away on July 8, 2006, losing a long and fierce battle with interstitial lung disease.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Greg (Raeann). Leland also leaves a son, Todd (Brenda) of Yakima, and a daughter, Carrie (Steve) Mallory of El Cajon, Calif. He was proud "Grampa" to his eight grandchildren: Amy, Brianna, Quinton, Jamie, Stephanie, Brandon, Kale and Kamryn, and five great-grandchildren.

Virginia Lee Orwig

Virginia Lee Orwig, 81, died July 11, 2006, at Highline Medical Center in Burien. She was born December 11, 1924, in Springfield, Ill.

She was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She was a garage sale "junkie" and a shopaholic who loved animals. She had routine outings for coffee with her friends.

Virginia is survived by her sons, Jon S. Orwig (Rita Black) of Burien; Jan P.

Jo Ann P. Rector

Jo Ann P. Rector, age 67, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2006 at her Phoenix home after a long illness. She was cared for by her devoted husband, Donald Rector, brother James Swedback and East Valley Hospice Care.

Private services with interment will be at Temple Hill Cemetary in Geneseo, New York.
